The Pinal County Treasurer has a lot of responsibilities to handle. Money is a great responsibility; even if it is just a small amount and even especially if it is a small amount. People cannot trust great things to those that they cannot trust with little things. Public service is a big thing and the minimal values that are required of a public servant are simply honesty and integrity; but make no mistake about it, these two qualities are the greatest things that people look for in the men and women responsible for governing the public aspects of their life.
To be Pinal County Treasurer, one has to be good with handling money and even better with handling the people who are responsible for the money. It is about keeping track of what is in the county's coffers and at the same time it is about keeping track of who is looking to get into the county's coffers. Corruption is a terrible thing and it is the responsibility of the person in charge to be incorruptible and to ensure that the members of the staff are not tempted to be corrupt as well. It is imperative that an office be one that is staffed with people who are aware of the services that they perform and that they are lead by a person who wishes to perform these duties with integrity. Being in a public office is not about getting rich off the money of the people and it never should be about exploiting the trust of others. Public service is about putting others' needs over one's immediate greed and working for the good of the community. The work of the Pinal County Treasurer must be done with transparency; the officer in charge must be willing to submit himself or herself to scrutiny to prove to the public that there is no corruption and that the money that was entrusted to the county government is indeed being spent on the county, for the enrichment of the lives of the people in the county. Good people are hard to find these days and people who are good and also happen to be good with money are even harder to find. It is a truly admirable thing not to be corrupted by the prospect of wealth and to have the proximity to such a great wealth and authority over keeping track of such wealth can require an astounding amount of honesty and integrity. |
